Default Cannot enable EAX, but have XFi?

I have all the latest drivers for my XFi, and am starting to get back into GW, however I cannot enable EAX! I found out after looking in DXDiag that DirectSound acceleration was only @ Basic, so i turned it ALL The way to full, set all the volume bars to max, and it still wont let me enable it!!! What's the deal?! How can I fix it?!

Make sure you don't have the -nosound switch on.

Try checking your setting in the "Audio Console" (the thing that is installed in your control panel when you install the driver pack).

In the "EAX Effects" tab Enable EAX Effects should (obviously) be selected

If it still doesn't work try getting new drivers from the creative website.

Here's a quick link to the latest drivers http://files2.europe.creative.com/ma..._2_09_0001.exe

EAX is enabled. There is no -nosound switch in the shortcut options, unless I am misunderstanding you, and those are the same drivers that I have right now (reinstalled anyways).

did you have a onboard sound card?? if you had that you need to disable that in the bios. (pressing f12 or del i think, but im not sure).
If you didn't had a onboard sound card, but a hardware. Then you need to unnistall that drivers. hoped it helped

It could be that EAX is disabled in the Creative Audio Console, where you set various modes and settings for the card. You should see 'Audio Console' somewhere in a Creative folder. Start it and look for the EAX Effects tab. There should be a checkbox "Enable EAX Effects" there, along with an EAX slider.

Just to recap - Your EAX is disabled in the game sound options? As in greyed out so that you cannot tick it?

When you look at the last section of the Sound Options (Just below Sound Quality) you should have 2 tick boxes. One for "Enable 3D Audio Hardware" the other "Use EAX". If you don't tick the first one, EAX stays gray. Tick that then tick EAX.

Works 100% on my system (also XFi card). Hope that helps.

Well I just checked mine(also have AN X-FI), and the EAX box is ticked and enabled. Everything the guys above have said you have tried already, if you haven't done so, uninstall and reinstall guild wars, that might do the trick.

Have you tried any other EAX compatible games?, could be that your card is faulty.

I personally dont notice any difference with EAx on or off, but then I am tone deaf

Try reinstalling GW, I know it's a pain, but it might work.

I wonder if GW EAX support is using OpenAL to do it.... OpenAL should be installed via the Creative drivers.. but in case something happened install these:
http://www.openal.org/downloads.html

Info on OpenAL - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenAL

This should not hurt anything (and in fact give Doom3 and other apps better audio support) but more a shot in the dark to fix the EAX issue.

Installed OpenAL, did nothing. Installed latest drivers (6/1/06), nothing. In Game mode, EAX is enabled in the Creative Audio Console. One thing I did notice though, I guess it downloaded a new file (GW), since it's dynamically installing itself as it downloads. Now on teh sound control panel it has an icon saying 'DirectSong is not currently playing additional music', since I bought the Collector's Edition GW:F, that can't be good, can it >.<

I know my card is not faulty, as I can play BF2 on the Ultra High settings with EAX enabled.

EDIT: RE: Not playing additional music: nvm, it's just an indicator. It lights up when I log in saying 'DirecSong is playing additional music from ...something'. I still can't enable EAX though, have reinstalled GW TWICE.
